Drainage and water services are essential to any premises, and with the risk of floods increasing, regular news stories regarding contaminated land, and more and more developments being built on brownfield sites, solicitors have an increasing duty of care to ensure clients are fully aware of all the Drainage, Water, Environmental and Flood issues affecting a property before a transaction is completed.
Commercial Drainage and Water Enquiry (1 hr):
The ten Water Companies of England and Wales will be offering the standardised Commercial Drainage & Water Enquiry from Spring 2010. This standardised search provides 22 questions and answers on all the drainage and water services to a commercial property. Severn Trent Searches offer this 1 hour CPD accredited seminar on the Commercial DW Drainage & Water Enquiry, as the official provider of the CON29DW Drainage & Water Enquiry and as guardians of drainage and water assets, are ideally positioned to support their customers’ product knowledge and continued development in this area.
Severn Trent Searches presenter: Owen Davies, Business Development Executive, Severn Trent Searches: Owen has worked for Severn Trent Searches for over 9 years and has extensive experience and insight into all our search reports. Owen works closely with many of the Local Authorities within the Severn Trent region and has particular interest in the current political environment with a focus on HIPs.
Commercial Environmental & Flood risks & searches (1 hr):
- Environmental risks in the conveyancing process: expert guidance on the impact of the legal framework, the definition of contaminated land & practical conveyancing issues
- Highlighting the issues, risks & implications associated with flood
LandMark presenter: Anthony Rollason, Regional Manager, Landmark Information Group;. Anthony is an experienced trainer who has worked with several Major Airlines before joining the legal industry in 2002. Both presentations are designed to provide a useful insight into the current commercial environmental, flood and drainage & water searches by using case studies and highlighting real issues raised in search results. They allow conveyancers and their colleagues to be fully prepared in understanding issues of liability and their client’s queries.

Any ideas for new courses?
Peter Ball has regular planning meetings with CLT so if you have any suggestions for topics to be added to the CPD programme let him have them before then.
In an effort to keep training costs down the Society is also looking to run course directly (as evidenced above), usually of between 1 and 2 hours’ duration, to be run at Derby University from 5.30 pm onwards to minimise loss of fee-earning time. Again, if you have any suggestions for suitable topics and/or suitable sources of speakers, please contact Peter Ball on 01283 815030 or at admin@derbylaw.net.
